Armenian speaker stresses importance of addressing entire border
In a discussion with journalists in parliament, Armenian Speaker Alen Simonyan addressed the ongoing border delimitation process with Azerbaijan.
Simonyan stated that there is no specific information yet regarding the section where the next stage of delimitation will occur, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
"I have no such data," Simonyan mentioned, emphasizing that the current demarcation line near the village of Kirants (Guney) will remain unchanged. He noted the legal implications of revising the demarcation, as it would result in 25 houses remaining on the Armenian side.
Simonyan stressed the necessity of addressing the entire border rather than focusing on isolated sections. "We don't plan to limit ourselves to just this section. We have to go along the entire border. There may be some movement from their side, but we cannot cede territory to Armenia and we do not expect to take anything from them. That's why we say - where the border is, there it goes," he asserted.
The speaker highlighted that the ongoing process is crucial for establishing the final borders.
On May 15, the ninth meeting of the delimitation commissions, chaired by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, was held at the border. This meeting resulted in the signing of a protocol-description for the delimitation of the border between several settlements based on 1976 maps.
