ASTRA: Drone slams into multi-storey apartment block in Russia’s Engels PHOTO / VIDEO
A drone struck a residential high-rise in the Ladya residential complex in the Russian city of Engels, according to open-source intelligence (OSINT) analysis published by ASTRA.
The apartment building is located approximately two kilometres from the runway of the Engels military airbase.
During the night of July 16, residents of Russia’s Saratov region recounted hearing numerous explosions. Local residents claimed that the Engels military airbase had come under attack.
Footage circulating online appears to show one of the drones hitting a residential building.
According to ASTRA, the building seen in the footage was identified as a residential block in the Ladya complex at 85 Pristanskaya Street. The analysis found that the distance between the building and the runway of the Engels military airbase is about two kilometres.
The regional governor said there were no casualties. “As a result of the UAV attack, civilian infrastructure in Engels sustained damage. All emergency services are working at the scene. Preliminary information indicates there are no casualties,” he added.
ASTRA later reported that it had confirmed a fire at the Engels military airbase following the attack in the Saratov region.
