ASTRA: Explosions strike Russian defence plant producing drone systems PHOTO / VIDEO
Residents in Chuvashia heard a series of explosions overnight on May 5, followed by a fire, prompting authorities to declare a missile alert across the region.
According to open-source intelligence analysis by the ASTRA agency, the likely target of the attack was the VNIIR-Progress facility located in Cheboksary.
The plnat is known to produce “Kometa” antennas designed to shield Russian unmanned aerial vehicles from Ukrainian electronic warfare interference.
Ukraine’s General Staff stated that the plant manufactures satellite navigation receivers and antennas compatible with GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo. It also reportedly produces “Kometa” modules used in a range of Russian weapons systems, including Shahed drones, Iskander-M, Kalibr, and guided aerial bomb kits known as UMPC modules.
