ASTRA: Ukrainian drones target oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov PHOTO / VIDEO

08 September 2026 08:54

Ukrainian drones targeted an oil refinery in Saratov, Russia, according to an open-source intelligence (OSINT) analysis by ASTRA.

Residents of Saratov and the surrounding region reported explosions and a fire overnight on September 8. At around 3:30 a.m., Regional Governor Roman Busargin warned of a drone threat.

About an hour later, Busargin confirmed that the attack caused “damage to civilian infrastructure” and said there were casualties.

ASTRA’s OSINT analysis indicated that the target was PJSC Saratov Oil Refinery. The plant has been part of Rosneft since March 2013.

The Saratov Oil Refinery is one of Russia’s oldest oil-processing facilities, having been established in 1934. It came under the control of Russian state oil company Rosneft in 2013. As of 2023, the refinery processed 4.8 million metric tons of crude oil annually.

ASTRA previously reported that the refinery had been targeted in Ukrainian attacks on several occasions.
