Attack on Azerbaijani embassy in Iran: Father of victim demands execution of perpetrator
Rizvan Asgarov, the father of Orkhan Asgarov, who was martyred during the terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran, has demanded the execution of the perpetrator of the attack.
"We demand the execution of the perpetrator of the terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran," Rizvan Asgarov told Trend, according to Caliber.Az.
"Approximately a year and a half ago, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Islamic Republic of Iran visited Baku. During a meeting at the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, we were offered condolences and informed that, according to the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran, either compensation or the death penalty could be applied. As the father of Orkhan Asgarov, I naturally stated that I demand execution," he said.
The martyr’s father noted that the necessary documents were prepared in connection with this matter a year and a half ago.
"My younger son and I wrote a letter demanding the death penalty. Now, they are requesting this demand again, and we will rewrite it. We demand the execution of the individual who committed this terrorist act. We have no other demands. January 27 marks the anniversary of Orkhan Asgarov's death. We will notarize and submit the necessary documents," he added.
Recall that on the morning of January 27, 2023, a gunman attacked the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran. The attacker breached the embassy’s security post and killed an Azerbaijani officer, the head of the security service, Orkhan Asgarov, with an AK-47 (Kalashnikov) rifle. Two other embassy security officers were injured during the attack. Following the incident, the diplomatic mission ceased its operations in Tehran.
The diplomatic mission resumed its activities in July of the previous year at a new address, a decision made after negotiations between the official authorities of Baku and Tehran.
Recently, Iran's Supreme Court upheld the decision to execute the perpetrator of the attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran. The criminal case has been forwarded to the court for substantive review. The court will invite the relatives of the victims. If they demand the execution of the attacker, the case will be sent to the appropriate institution for implementation.
