Azerbaijani student found dead in Munich laid to rest in home village
Kanan Safarov, an 18-year-old Azerbaijani student who was found dead in his apartment in Munich, Germany, on July 5, has been buried in his home village of Digah in Azerbaijan’s southern Lankaran district.
The young man’s body was repatriated to Azerbaijan and laid to rest on July 10 following a funeral ceremony attended by family and local residents at the village cemetery, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Safarov, the only child in his family, had been living in Germany for the past six months, where he was pursuing university studies and working as a dental assistant. Before relocating to Germany, he lived with his mother in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.
Previously, Caliber.Az informed that Safarov was reported missing after failing to show up for work on July 5. Concerned friends and coworkers attempted to reach him and, after receiving no response, entered his apartment through a window, where they discovered his body.
Preliminary investigations found no signs of external injuries, and authorities are exploring several potential causes of death, including food poisoning. Family members said early speculation suggested a possible case of thrombosis, potentially triggered after drinking cold water. However, the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed and remains pending the results of a full autopsy.
