Attempted drone strike on Moscow foiled, city mayor confirms
Russian air defence systems destroyed 19 drones heading toward Moscow, the city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, said on Telegram.
Specialised emergency services are currently working at the sites where debris from the downed drones fell.
This latest foiled attempt is part of an ongoing wave of intensified Ukrainian drone operations targeting the Russian capital region.
In the preceding days, Ukrainian forces conducted multiple drone strikes on Moscow-area infrastructure, including a significant attack on June 16 that damaged the Kapotnya oil refinery—the largest fuel supplier to the Moscow region—halting its operations and sparking fires.
This marked the ninth consecutive day of such assaults on the capital, according to local authorities, with earlier incidents in the recent sequence also prompting flight disruptions at Moscow's airports and reports of debris impacts.
