Australia names Susan Coyle as first female Head of Army
Australian Army has appointed Lieutenant General Susan Coyle as the new head, after nearly three decades of service, during which she was deployed to the Solomon Islands, Afghanistan, and the Middle East.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles described the appointment as a historic milestone, emphasising that she has become the first woman to lead a branch of the country’s armed forces, Caliber.Az reports, citing Australian media.
He also noted that the Australian Army is undergoing a major modernisation process, transitioning to advanced weapons systems, including long-range strike capabilities, drones, and other new technological solutions.
Coyle said her professional experience includes work in cyber operations.
According to her, this extensive background forms the foundation of her ability to assume command responsibilities and to justify the trust placed in her.
