Azerbaijan assists in evacuation of Russian citizens from Iran
A group of Russian citizens has been successfully evacuated from Iran into Azerbaijan through the Astara border crossing, as part of an ongoing humanitarian effort coordinated by the Azerbaijani government in response to rising regional tensions.
Azerbaijani authorities ensured all necessary conditions for a safe and smooth transfer at the Astara checkpoint. Evacuees received medical assistance on-site, and a refreshment table was arranged for those wishing to have breakfast, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The evacuation includes 51 members of the Russian Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra, who were in Iran for a cultural tour, as well as renowned Russian filmmaker and People's Artist of the Russian Federation Fyodor Bondarchuk.
The operation follows Azerbaijan’s decision to respond positively to requests from several foreign governments seeking assistance in evacuating their citizens from the Islamic Republic amid escalating security concerns. Officials have confirmed that the evacuation of foreign nationals continues.
Earlier, six citizens of Kazakhstan have also been evacuated through the Astara border point.
