Azerbaijan discovers 1,318 Armenia-laid mines in Lachin
Azerbaijan has found a large number of anti-personnel mines on the liberated territories of Lachin District.
Some 1,318 PMN-E type mines were found on the territory of Lachin District only from August 15 to 31 of 2022, Caliber.Az reports citing the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry and the Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
The mines were produced in Armenia in 2021.
It should be noted that in accordance with international humanitarian law, the Ottawa Treaty, adopted in 1997, prohibits the production, storage, transportation and use of anti-personnel mines.
In addition, by planting anti-personnel mines in the territories liberated from occupation, the Armenians violated the requirements of Protocol Annex I to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, thereby demonstrating disrespect for the international community.
The massive mining of Armenian fields is a manifestation of the mine terror carried out by this country. All this is a deliberate crime against peace and security in the region, and the environment and a clear indicator of Armenia's hostile intentions.
