Foreign diplomats explore Mugham tradition in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam
A delegation of foreign diplomats and military attachés accredited in Azerbaijan visited key cultural sites in the city of Aghdam, where extensive reconstruction efforts are underway.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Mugham Center, learning about mugham — a traditional form of Azerbaijani music recognised as part of the country’s cultural heritage. The guests were also briefed on the center’s future programming, which will include a series of concerts and cultural events, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The diplomats later visited the recently restored Imarat Palace Complex, a historic landmark showcasing elements of Karabakh’s cultural legacy and the history of Aghdam. The visit offered the delegation a firsthand look at the scale of the reconstruction projects being carried out in the city.
Originally reopened on September 19, 2024, after extensive restoration, the Imarat Palace Complex spans 3.3 hectares and features ceremonial buildings, mausoleums, a historic cemetery, an equestrian facility dedicated to Karabakh horses, and a modern visitor center. Restoration work and archaeological research at the site began in 2023, involving both local and international specialists.
The visit is part of a broader diplomatic programme designed to highlight Azerbaijan’s post-conflict recovery and reconstruction initiatives across the liberated territories. It also aims to promote understanding of the country’s efforts to prepare for the return of displaced residents.
Prior to Aghdam, the delegation of foreign diplomats also visited Shusha.
