Aghdam’s revival draws diplomatic praise among envoys, optimistic about future
The rapid restoration of Aghdam and the wider Karabakh region is attracting international attention and optimism, with diplomats highlighting the impressive pace of reconstruction and the promising prospects for economic revival.
During a visit by the diplomatic corps to the liberated territories on June 21, envoys from Brazil and Palestine expressed admiration for the transformative infrastructure projects and the region’s unique beauty, underscoring Aghdam’s return as a vital economic center, Caliber.Az reports.
The Aghdam Industrial Park and its developing infrastructure are expected to attract a significant number of entrepreneurs, enabling Aghdam to reclaim its historical role as the economic hub of Karabakh, Ambassador of Brazil to Azerbaijan Manuel Montenegro told Report.
"Infrastructure projects in Karabakh are being implemented with impressive intensity. For me, this visit to the liberated territories was extremely useful - I was able to see with my own eyes the scale and pace of the implementation of the Karabakh restoration project," the diplomat shared his impressions.
Montenegro was particularly struck by the swift progress and the comprehensive planning that addresses all aspects needed to draw people and businesses to the region.
"Modern infrastructure and favourable conditions for business have been created. Aghdam has historically been the economic center of the region, and now it is confidently moving towards returning to its former status. The city will undoubtedly be a great success and will attract many entrepreneurs," the ambassador emphasised.
He also pointed out that the rejuvenated district will hold special appeal for the younger generation eager to build a new economy in the liberated territories.
Echoing the sentiment of hope and renewal, Ambassador of Palestine to Azerbaijan Ahmad Bittani highlighted Karabakh’s natural beauty and expressed optimism about its future.
"Karabakh showcases the unique beauty of Azerbaijan," Bittani told Report during the diplomatic visit. "I would be happy to visit again."
Reflecting on the scale of destruction once witnessed in Aghdam — often called the "Hiroshima of the Caucasus" — the ambassador expressed confidence in the city’s full restoration.
"This is truly a very beautiful region," Bittani said. "I'm confident that in the future, this will be a very beautiful city."
