Azerbaijan extradites Turkish citizen on int’l wanted list

The Turkish citizen, who was put on the international wanted list, was handed over to the competent authorities of his country.

Turkish citizen Faik Karacel was charged with attempted premeditated murder in Türkiye and has been put on the international wanted list since 2022, the Azerbaijani Prosecutor-General's Office told Caliber.Az.

The location of this person in Azerbaijan was established in July 2023, and preventive measures were taken against him. The petition of the competent authorities of Türkiye regarding the extradition of Faik Karacel was sent through the Prosecutor- General's Office to the Baku Serious Crimes Court for consideration.

Based on the European Convention on Extradition of December 13, 1957, the court granted the request on September 19 and decided to extradite the accused person.

On November 3, the accused was handed over to the competent authorities of Türkiye, accompanied by a special convoy of the Penitentiary Service of the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry.
