Azerbaijan highlights water resources in Karabakh Aims for green energy, zero emission zone
Firudin Taghiyev, Head of Land Use Control Department at the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, underscored the strategic significance of the water resources in Azerbaijan's recently liberated Karabakh region during a roundtable discussion on water management and climate resilience.
The event, held in anticipation of the upcoming COP29 climate conference, focused on the role of water management systems in fostering sustainable agriculture, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Taghiyev revealed that the Karabakh region, which is now under Azerbaijani control, features ten reservoirs and seventeen rivers. These water bodies are pivotal for the region's agricultural development and environmental sustainability.
"The liberated areas have been designated as a green energy zone," Taghiyev stated.
"Moreover, we are committed to establishing these territories as a 'zero emission' zone. To achieve this, effective management of hydropower and water resources is one of our primary objectives."
The emphasis on hydropower and sustainable water management aligns with Azerbaijan’s broader environmental goals, aiming to integrate climate resilience into regional development plans.
