Azerbaijan pays tribute to journalists killed in Kalbajar mine explosion Four Years On
Four years have passed since the deaths of Azerbaijani journalists Siraj Abishov (a cameraman for AzTV) and Maharram Ibrahimov (a correspondent for the AZERTAC news agency), who were killed by an anti-tank mine in the village of Susuzlug, Kalbajar district.
As Caliber.Az recalls, on June 4, 2021, at around 11:00 a.m., a KAMAZ vehicle carrying media personnel on assignment in the liberated Kalbajar district struck an anti-tank mine en route to the village of Susuzlug. The explosion claimed the lives of two journalists and a government official, while four others sustained injuries and were hospitalised.
Maharram Ali oglu Ibrahimov was born on April 16, 1982, in the village of Ardanish, in Armenia's Krasnoselsk district (Chambarak district of the Goycha province). He began working as a correspondent for the Azerbaijan State News Agency (now AZERTAC) on September 1, 2004, and was promoted to senior correspondent on January 16, 2007. A father of two, Ibrahimov was laid to rest on June 5 next to his parents in the Mushfigabad settlement cemetery in the Absheron district.
By order of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Maharram Ibrahimov was posthumously awarded the 3rd-degree "For Service to the Fatherland" Order.
Siraj Abish oglu Abishov was born on August 29, 1989, in the city of Gubadli. He began working for AzTV in 2019. Abishov, who is survived by one child, was buried in the Alley of Martyrs in Sumgayit.
By order of President Ilham Aliyev, Siraj Abishov was also posthumously awarded the 3rd-degree "For Service to the Fatherland" Order.
