Azerbaijan clears over 400 unexploded munitions in formerly occupied regions
The Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) has successfully cleared 436 unexploded munitions across several liberated regions of the country.
In its latest weekly report, ANAMA confirmed the removal of 36 anti-personnel mines, 23 anti-tank mines, and 377 unexploded ordnance between May 12 and 18, Caliber.Az reports.
The hazardous materials were located in territories previously occupied, including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankandi, Khojavand, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan.
In total, 1,291.8 hectares of land have been cleared of these dangerous remnants of war, significantly improving safety for local communities and paving the way for reconstruction efforts.
ANAMA’s work forms part of a broader effort to guarantee the secure return of displaced individuals and the restoration of infrastructure in the reclaimed areas.
The agency still encounters major obstacles as it tackles the threats posed by the widespread minefields left by the former Armenian occupiers.
