Demining progress: Azerbaijan neutralises over 200 explosives in Karabakh
The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has released its latest weekly update detailing clearance operations across formerly occupied territories.
Between May 5 to 11, ANAMA specialists conducted large-scale demining activities in several regions including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Khojavend, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan, Caliber.Az reports.
A total of 45 anti-personnel mines, 32 anti-tank mines, and 274 unexploded ordnance were located and rendered safe during this period.
The agency reports that an area spanning approximately 1,315.7 hectares was cleared of mines and unexploded munitions as part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of liberated regions.
Note that, Azerbaijan has launched a large-scale demining operation in territories liberated from Armenian occupation, following credible reports that Armenia deliberately planted landmines to impede the return of displaced civilians and pose long-term security risks.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) in coordination with the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Service, aims to clear hazardous areas and restore safety across the region.
Authorities say the demining efforts are part of a broader commitment to post-conflict recovery and humanitarian support, enabling the safe resettlement of civilians and the rebuilding of communities.
