Azerbaijan launches nationwide survey of IDPs to support “Great Return” programme PHOTO

07 July 2026 15:48

Azerbaijan has launched a nationwide survey of internally displaced persons (IDPs) as part of the state programme, "The Great Return to territories liberated from occupation," aimed at supporting the resettlement and reintegration of displaced communities.

According to the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, the initiative seeks to create a comprehensive database on the socioeconomic and demographic conditions of IDPs. The survey will also assess employment levels, professional skills, educational attainment, digital literacy, and access to electronic public services, Caliber.Az reports.

As part of the project, a training program for interviewers was held from June 30 to July 2. Participants received instruction on survey methodologies, interviewing techniques, and ethical standards to ensure the quality and integrity of the data collection process.

Following the completion of the training, interviewers will begin conducting surveys among internally displaced persons across various regions of the country as part of a large-scale data collection effort.

Officials said the information gathered will provide an analytical basis for shaping future policies and decisions under the "Great Return" programme, which aims to facilitate the voluntary return of displaced Azerbaijanis to territories recaptured by Baku following the conflict with Armenia.
