ANAMA: Azerbaijan neutralises over 2,000 explosives in Karabakh in May
The Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) cleared 7,440.2 hectares of land from mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in May, as part of ongoing efforts to secure territories liberated from Armenian occupation.
According to the agency’s latest monthly report, demining operations were carried out across several regions, including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Khojavand, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan. A total of 321 anti-personnel mines, 154 anti-tank mines, and 1,991 pieces of unexploded ordnance were discovered and neutralised, ANAMA told Caliber.Az.
ANAMA continues to lead large-scale clearance operations in the Karabakh region, where landmines laid during decades of occupation pose ongoing risks to civilians and reconstruction efforts.
Authorities in Baku have repeatedly accused Armenia of “mine terror,” alleging that devices were planted even after the ceasefire. Azerbaijani officials maintain that mine clearance is essential for rebuilding infrastructure and ensuring the safe return of displaced residents.
Supported by international partners, ANAMA has deployed trained personnel and advanced equipment to expedite clearance work. Azerbaijani officials continue to urge Armenia to provide detailed maps of minefields to accelerate the process.
