Azerbaijan, Iran discuss Aghband-Julfa road construction

Aliyannaghi Huseynov, the Consul General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz, held a meeting with Malik Rakhmati, the Governor of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on the construction of the Aghband-Julfa road.

The meeting primarily delved into the potential for enhancing trade cooperation between the border regions of Azerbaijan and Iran, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azertag.

Governor Rakhmati underscored the significance of expanding trade and economic ties with neighbouring countries, highlighting Azerbaijan's pivotal role as Iran's closest neighbour. He emphasized that fostering relations with Azerbaijan remains a key priority of Iran's foreign policy, given the mutual benefits derived from the bilateral partnership.

During the meeting, Consul General Huseynov provided insights into the ongoing economic reforms in Azerbaijan and the country's vast production potential. He also highlighted the strides made in bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including tourism, trade, transport, and transit.

A key point of discussion was the construction of the Aghband-Julfa road traversing Iranian territory. Both parties acknowledged that this infrastructure project holds immense promise for bolstering trade, economic, and transit transport relations not only between Iran and Azerbaijan but also among all countries in the region. The road's completion is expected to provide a significant boost to regional connectivity, facilitating smoother movement of goods and fostering greater economic integration.
