Azerbaijan-Kuwait intergovernmental meeting meant to further strengthen ties set for April
Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Kuwait has confirmed that the third meeting of the Azerbaijan-Kuwait intergovernmental commission on cooperation is set to take place in April.
Ambassador Emil Karimov stated that the event will be held on April 29 with the Azerbaijani delegation to be headed by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
“Our bilateral relations are witnessing significant progress. Earlier this year, the first round of political consultations between the two countries took place,” the diplomat recalled.
The upcoming governmental meeting will significantly boost the bilateral relations, as the second meeting of the Azerbaijan-Kuwait intergovernmental commission was held back in February 2013 in Baku.
The two countries already enjoy good relations, both politically and economically speaking, especially in the tourism sector. Azerbaijan continues to appeal to Kuwaiti travellers thanks to direct flights, modern infrastructure, and a rich cultural heritage. A total of 31,369 have visited the country in 2024, the majority of whom travelled for leisure purposes.
Ambassador Karimov has emphasized that all necessary conditions have been created for their comfortable stay, pointing to the numerous sightseeing locations that are attracting tourists each year, starting from Baku's historical landmarks to cultural and natural sights across the country. Kuwaiti passport holders can obtain entry visas upon arrival at all Azerbaijani international airports with the necessary documents.
According to the latest available data from Azerbaijan's Tourism Board, Kuwaiti travellers are among the largest group of visitors from the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region, which entails the majority of countries around the Persian Gulf. In 2023, a total of 182,639 tourists arrived in Azerbaijan from this region, with Saudi Arabia ranking top on the list (80,677), followed by the United Arab Emirates (45,759), Kuwait (29,694), Oman (17,046), Bahrain (5,911), and Qatar (3,552).
