Typhoon Yagi, which struck northern Vietnam in early September, has been reported as the most powerful storm to hit the country in the last three decades, causing an estimated VND 40 trillion (over $1.63 billion) in damages.
The super typhoon brought severe rains and flooding, impacting 26 provinces that account for 41% of Vietnam's GDP and house about 40% of its population. The disaster destroyed or inundated 257,000 homes, and over 1,300 schools, and damaged hundreds of dams and other critical infrastructure. Additionally, around 262,000 hectares of rice and other crops were submerged, leading to the loss of more than 2.3 million livestock and poultry.
