Azerbaijan plans major expansion in AI, data centre capacity—official
Azerbaijan is carrying out comprehensive efforts to position itself as a regional hub for artificial intelligence (AI) and a data processing centre, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samir Mammadov has said.
Mammadov made the remarks at an event titled “Artificial Intelligence for Cities,” held on the margins of WUF13 in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He said there is significant demand for electricity across the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and neighbouring markets.
He noted that Azerbaijan plans in the short term to add 2 GW of electricity capacity through large-scale green energy projects, competitive tariffs, and the development of digital connectivity. “All of this creates advantages for Azerbaijan,” the deputy minister stressed.
Mammadov also spoke about ongoing negotiations on long-term cooperation with global technology companies and hyperscale providers.
“The National Centre and Academy of Artificial Intelligence are training qualified personnel for the development and management of AI solutions, including the creation of a large language model in the Azerbaijani language for public services,” he said.
