Azerbaijan's energy role expands as gas supplies to Europe set to rise
Fatih Birol, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), announced that Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe are expected to rise in the coming years.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the 12th Global Baku Forum, Birol highlighted Azerbaijan's growing role as a reliable energy partner, especially in light of the ongoing global energy crisis, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
“During the energy crisis, many countries have once again been convinced that Azerbaijan has established itself as a reliable partner,” Birol remarked, emphasizing the country's importance in ensuring energy security for Europe.
He further stated that the volume of gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Europe is set to increase in the near future, underlining the pivotal role the country will continue to play in the European energy landscape.
One of the key drivers of this increased energy supply will be the project of laying an electric cable along the bottom of the Black Sea. According to Birol, this ambitious infrastructure project holds significant potential to strengthen the energy ties between Azerbaijan and Europe.
Organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center under the patronage of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the 12th Global Baku Forum themed “Rethinking World Order: Turning Challenges into Opportunities” has today kicked off at the Gulustan Palace in Baku.
The 12th edition of the forum, to take place from 13 to 15 March, will see the participation of more than 400 individuals.
