Azerbaijan’s media watchdog slams fake quote attributed to interior minister
The Azerbaijan Media Development Agency (MEDİA) has issued a statement condemning the circulation of a fabricated comment falsely attributed to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan.
The remark in question, which was shared across several social media platforms, purportedly referred to recent statements made by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to Caliber.Az, the agency characterised the post as part of an ongoing disinformation campaign designed to manipulate public opinion and mislead the population.
“This comment, which is a continuation of the fake news campaign conducted in recent days, is untrue and aims to manipulate information in order to mislead people,” the MEDİA statement said.
Urging caution, MEDİA called on the public to rely solely on verified and professional sources of information.
“We urge the public to trust only information from official sources, disseminated by the country's news agencies and other professional media outlets,” the agency emphasised.
The statement further appealed to Azerbaijani citizens, members of the press, and civil society actors to uphold vigilance and integrity in the face of such disinformation.
“We call on the citizens of Azerbaijan, journalists, and public activists to always be principled and vigilant in such situations,” MEDİA concluded.
