Namibia’s Adolf Hitler announces his candidacy once more PHOTO
Adolf Hitler Uunona, the long-serving councillor of Ompundja in northern Namibia, is seeking re-election in this week’s regional vote, despite the unusual burden of his name.
Uunona, 59, has held office since 2004 and gained international attention after a 2020 interview in which he stressed he “does not seek world domination,” Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Uunona represents the ruling SWAPO party and is expected to stand a strong chance of victory, even as the party faces declining support nationally. He previously secured 84.88% of the vote in 2020 and could enter his fifth term if re-elected. In campaign materials, Uunona appears simply as “Comrade Adolf Uunona,” though official documents still list his full name.
The councillor faces mounting pressure from constituents frustrated with slow regional development. Residents have criticised his office for inefficiency, with one telling the local Namibian newspaper: “We are not paying him to play cards at work.”

Uunona’s tenure has been marked by persistent efforts to improve local infrastructure, including a long-standing campaign to construct a tarred road between Oshakati and Ompundja. After years of delays and scrutiny from the Ministry of Finance, Uunona finally announced the project’s first phase: a twelve-kilometre section costing around €1.5 million. The initiative was highlighted with a ceremonial ground-breaking attended by Uunona and SWAPO officials.
On the sensitive issue of his name, Uunona has repeatedly clarified that it was given by his father without any political intent. He avoids using “Hitler” in public events and distances himself from the historical figure, emphasising that he is “not like him” and has no connection to Nazi crimes.
Uunona has also attracted attention for his public statements on social issues and regional leadership. In campaign videos, he highlights local development and social welfare improvements, while acknowledging that major projects remain limited.
