Azerbaijan’s security chief: Yerevan refuses to cooperate on clarifying fate of missing persons PHOTO
Ali Naghiyev, Chief of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service and Chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, said that Yerevan refuses to cooperate on clarifying the fate of missing persons as he has met with Kathryne Bomberger, Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).
During the meeting, both parties positively assessed their ongoing collaborative efforts to search for Azerbaijani citizens who went missing as a result of Armenian military aggression, Caliber.Az reports.
Naghiyev provided Bomberger with a detailed overview of Azerbaijan's efforts to locate burial sites, exhume remains, and identify individuals who went missing during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He emphasized, however, that Armenia has refused to cooperate with Azerbaijan in clarifying the fates of the missing persons. Naghiyev highlighted that Armenia continues to take an unconstructive stance on this critical humanitarian issue, obstructing efforts to resolve the matter.
Bomberger, in turn, praised the collaborative work between the ICMP and Azerbaijan’s State Commission, acknowledging the importance of the commission’s report. She expressed optimism regarding the continuation of cooperative efforts, stressing that both sides had made significant progress in the search for missing persons. Bomberger also conveyed her confidence that the partnership between the two commissions would continue to strengthen through joint efforts.
