Azerbaijan's top Muslim cleric urges global recognition of Khojaly genocide PHOTO
Azerbaijan maintains cooperation with the UN Alliance of Civilisations at the highest level, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazada said at the “Alliance for Peace” summit in Angola.
During his speech, Pashazada highlighted Azerbaijan’s experience of peaceful coexistence among different cultures and civilisations, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Pashazada noted that one of the highest truths reflected in the holy books revealed to humanity is that the killing of even a single person created by the Almighty is as grave a crime as the destruction of all humanity. He noted that mass killings committed on the basis of nationality, race, or religion—and forever etched in humanity’s memory—rank among the gravest and most unforgivable crimes against humanity.
Pashazada also drew attention to the Khojaly genocide, saying the Azerbaijani people had been victims of mass killings and that the international community should be aware of the tragedy and assess it fairly.
“Today, as wars continue around the world, we must, guided by international law, work and pray for the triumph of justice and lasting peace—not fragile ceasefires—as well as for the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine,” Pashazada said.
