Azerbaijan, Tajikistan to launch direct flights

29 August 2024 20:30

The Tajik Foreign Ministry has announced that Tajikistan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ilhom Abdurahmon met with Azerbaijan's Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev in Baku.

The sides discussed the potential introduction of direct flights between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The meeting covered various topics including the exchange of experience in implementing e-government and digital technologies, and coordination of regional transport communications. The sides specifically addressed increasing cargo flows through the Middle Transport Corridor. Another key topic was the resumption of Dushanbe-Baku-Dushanbe flights.

Abdurahmon and Nabiyev discussed Tajikistan's participation in the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties, which will be held in Baku this November.

Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year. Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan. Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit. The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
