Azerbaijani foreign minister discusses missing persons with ICMP director
On March 10, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons, Kathryne Bomberger, to discuss ongoing efforts related to individuals who went missing during Armenia's aggression.
The meeting saw discussions of issues related to Azerbaijanis who went missing during Armenia's aggression and the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, the current situation regarding the search for and identification of the missing persons, and the related international cooperation, Caliber.Az reports.
Bayramov emphasized that the issue of missing persons has always been a priority for the Azerbaijani state and stated that as a result of Armenian aggression in the early 1990s, up to 4,000 Azerbaijanis went missing, including civilians.
The minister stressed the importance of mobilizing international efforts to address this issue.
Bayramov noted that clarifying the fate of the missing persons is crucial for normalizing relations after the conflict, with the international community playing a significant role in this process.
He also mentioned that 23 mass graves had been discovered in Azerbaijan's liberated territories and emphasized that the remaining landmine threat hinders efforts in this area.
