Azerbaijani ombudsman condemns poor protection of Azerbaijani embassy in Paris
The building of the Azerbaijani Embassy in France has not been secured as required by international law, thereby the obligations assumed failed to be fulfilled.
The remarks were made by the commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva on September 19 regarding the attacks on the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, according to Report.
“Armenia, which for many years pursued, along with unfounded territorial claims against Azerbaijan, a policy of hatred on ethnic grounds and the resulting policy of genocide and terror, continues to commit provocations aimed at a gross violation of human rights,” she said.
“This is once again confirmed by the fact that the other day, extremist elements of Armenian origin living in Lebanon, having gathered in front of the Azerbaijani embassy in the city of Beirut to carry out an ‘action’, attempted to attack the embassy building and on the lives of Azerbaijani diplomats. This also happened near our diplomatic missions in the US and France. In particular, in France, under the guise of holding a ‘peaceful demonstration’, an attempt was made to enter the building of our embassy, and acts of vandalism were committed. Unfortunately, the protection of the embassy building and diplomats was not provided as required by international law. And this means non-fulfilment by states of their obligations in compliance with international law,” the ombudsman noted.
“These attacks on the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Azerbaijan are a gross violation of international law, in particular, the 1961 Vienna Convention “On Diplomatic Relations” adopted by the UN, and the 1973 Convention “On the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agents”, Aliyeva concluded.
