Azerbaijan, Iran talk over ICT cooperation

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiyev, met with Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Sattar Hashemi, who is visiting Azerbaijan to attend the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25).

The two ministers discussed the establishment of a joint working group aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of information and communications technology (ICT), Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The talks also explored broader opportunities for bilateral collaboration, including the expansion of the regulatory framework to enhance partnership.

Both sides agreed to continue the successful cooperation achieved in recent years, particularly in the coordination of frequency management, which has been a key area of collaboration between Azerbaijan and Iran in the ICT sector.

Baku opened the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-2025) on November 17, marking the first time the event is held in the CIS. Organised every four years by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the conference aims to narrow the global digital divide and promote digital transformation.

Held at the Baku Congress Centre, WTDC-2025 brings together over 2,000 delegates from 150 countries, including more than 300 youth representatives. The event provides a platform to explore global tech trends, engage with industry experts, and foster international partnerships.

Member states are expected to adopt a declaration setting key development priorities for the next four years, with around five focus areas for the CIS region. WTDC-2025 runs until November 28.
