Azerbaijani think-tank chief calls for US partnership after Baku–Yerevan breakthrough
A senior Azerbaijani official has called for closer collaboration between US and Azerbaijani policy experts, saying a recent agreement between Baku and Yerevan has opened the door to greater stability and cooperation in the South Caucasus.
Farid Shafiyev, Chair of the Centre of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Centre), made the remarks at the inaugural Azerbaijan-US Think-Tank Forum in Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He said the agreement signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on 8 August had created “a new basis” for peace, stability and regional cooperation.
Shafiyev told participants that the current environment presents an opportunity to establish a joint platform for peacebuilding, economic partnership and security across the region.
He described the forum as the first initiative of its kind between the Azerbaijani and US expert communities, offering an important space to discuss key regional issues.
He stressed the need to rebuild trust and foster communication between societies in the South Caucasus, expressing hope that sustained expert dialogue would help lay the foundations for lasting peace.
Shafiyev also underscored the value of US experience in the development of think-tanks and invited American experts to exchange recommendations and engage in joint research projects with their Azerbaijani counterparts.
