Azerbaijani parliament accuses German Bundestag official of bias against Azerbaijan
Members of an Azerbaijani parliamentary committee have called the recent statements of the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, made during his visit to Yerevan, biased, reality-distorting, and regrettable
“Once again we are witnessing how the patrons of the Armenian leadership deceived the international community with their false statements," members of the Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Relations, according to Azertag.
The statement adds the following:
"Unfortunately, the influence and pressure of destructive forces in the German Bundestag contribute to such a biased approach to Azerbaijan and the voicing of such statements. This fact itself clearly demonstrates how baseless the allegations made in these statements are.
Some remarks in the statement are particularly objectionable. We perceive the distortion of the name of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as a step against the territorial integrity of our country. We would like to remind the German Bundestag that missions of specialized UN structures visited the region twice and confirmed in their reports the absence of cases of violence against civilians.
We consider the lack of sanctions against Armenia, which for 30 years kept the territory of Azerbaijan under the occupation of Azerbaijan, committed war crimes against our country, destroyed cultural monuments and the historical heritage of the Azerbaijani people both in Armenia and Azerbaijan, and threats to apply sanctions against Azerbaijan an example of political hypocrisy.
The Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Relations of the Milli Majlis [Parliament] of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly rejects the statements made by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth."
In a press briefing in Yerevan on October 23, Roth allegedly accused Azerbaijan of "using force against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh".
