Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan chart path for deeper partnership in economic, cultural spheres

Uzbek President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with the Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament), Sahiba Gafarova, to discuss the further expansion of bilateral relations between the two nations.

The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen the friendship, strategic partnership, and alliance between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports citing the Uzbek leader’s press service.

During the meeting, Gafarova conveyed greetings and well wishes from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to President Mirziyoyev. The discussions focused on a range of key issues, including the continued strengthening of cooperation across multiple sectors.

The sides hailed the progress made under the framework of the "Year of Economic Cooperation," noting that trade volumes between the two countries have been steadily increasing. Additionally, various cooperation projects in diverse economic sectors are currently in active development.

The parties also emphasized the importance of cultural and humanitarian exchanges, which continue to be organized regularly, further fostering mutual understanding between the peoples of the two nations.

A key point of the discussions was the significance of maintaining close collaboration and active parliamentary exchanges. Both sides agreed on the need to closely monitor the implementation of existing agreements and generate new initiatives in preparation for upcoming summits, ensuring the continued success of their partnership.

Speaker Gafarova visited Uzbekistan to participate in several significant events, including the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the 4th Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network, and a coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

Gafarova has been re-elected as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for another three-year term at the 4th Conference of the Network, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
