Strengthening global cooperation: Azerbaijan explores parliamentary ties with Pakistan, Bahrain
Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament), Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Chairman of Pakistan's Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, in Tashkent to discuss the expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting focused on the importance of strengthening ties between the legislative bodies of the two countries, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The sides highlighted the crucial role that reciprocal visits between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Pakistan, as well as between their legislative bodies, play in strengthening bilateral relations. Speaker Gafarova took the opportunity to inform her Pakistani counterpart about the ongoing activities of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network, an initiative spearheaded by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. She also highlighted the significant steps taken toward the institutional development of this influential organization.
Chairman Gilani expressed Pakistan’s appreciation for the work of the Parliamentary Network and affirmed that his country attaches great importance to its relationship with Azerbaijan. The meeting also covered various other issues of mutual interest, underscoring the potential for further cooperation between the two nations.
Speaker Gafarova also met with Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Bahrain, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, who affirmed his country’s full support for Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network.
The two leaders met to discuss the continued cooperation between their respective legislative bodies and to strengthen their ties within international parliamentary structures.
The meeting highlighted the growing level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Bahrain in various international parliamentary frameworks, including the Non-Aligned Movement, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the development of these ties and reiterated their commitment to further enhancing collaboration.
They also underscored the significance of the forthcoming fourth conference of the parliamentary network in Tashkent, which is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of the NAM Parliamentary Network. The leaders acknowledged the high potential for further developing the interaction between the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Bahrain, with a focus on addressing mutual interests and challenges.
