Türkiye reaffirms support for Azerbaijan after mine blasts in Aghdam, Jabrayil injure four
Türkiye has reiterated its unwavering support for Azerbaijan in tackling the ongoing threat posed by landmines in the liberated territories.
The Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan issued a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing solidarity with the Azerbaijani people and concern over recent mine-related incidents, Caliber.Az reports.
“We wish a speedy recovery to our Azerbaijani brothers who were injured today as a result of mine incidents in the Aghdam and Jabrayil districts of Karabakh. We share Azerbaijan’s concerns over security due to the large number of unidentified mines in the territories of Karabakh liberated from occupation,” the statement read.
The embassy further emphasized that Türkiye will continue to provide all possible support to Azerbaijan in its fight against the mine threat across various platforms.
Earlier on April 6, as a result of mine incidents in the Jabrayil and Aghdam districts, four people were injured. In the first case, an employee of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) was injured, in the second - three members of one family.
The issue of landmine contamination remains one of the most pressing humanitarian and security challenges in the post-conflict recovery of the Karabakh region. Azerbaijani authorities have repeatedly called for international cooperation in accelerating demining operations and holding accountable those responsible for mining civilian areas.
For the record, since the end of the Second Karabakh War in 2020, hundreds of Azerbaijanis, including civilians and military personnel, have fallen victim to landmines planted during the decades-long Armenian occupation.
