Azerbaijani president hails Zangezur TRIPP corridor deal as "final step towards peace"

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has hailed a new agreement on the Zangezur TRIPP corridor as a “final step towards peace,” and expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and his team for their role in brokering the deal.

The president stressed that the corridor project, part of international transport routes, is “not aimed against any country” but is intended to enhance connectivity, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“I think it will be very difficult for any country, whether it's a country situated in our region or far away, to say something bad about today's achievement. Because today, we actually made a final step towards peace,” Aliyev said, speaking to a U.S. broadcaster during a visit to the United States, Aliyev said.

During the interview, Aliyev also addressed relations with Russia and the downing of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243 in December 2024. He said Baku does not believe the incident was intentional but called for accountability.

“The only thing that we demanded was to admit that, punish those who committed that crime, even if it was not intentional, and pay compensation to the victims and to the airline,” he said.
