At an official reception in Kazakhstan held in honour of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit, one of Azerbaijan’s most cherished musical legacies was brought to life in a touching tribute.
Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, shared on social network X that during the reception, Kazakh artists performed Muslim Magomayev’s iconic song Blue Eternity (Golubaya Vechnost’) — a gesture symbolising the deep cultural respect and brotherhood between the two nations.
Caliber.Az cites Hajiyev’s post: “At the official reception held during the state visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Kazakhstan, our Kazakh brothers with great love and enthusiasm performed a song from Muslim Magomayev's repertoire ‘Blue Eternity’ as a sign of respect for Azerbaijani culture.”

The performance paid homage to Muslim Magomayev (1942–2008), one of Azerbaijan’s greatest musical legends and a towering figure of the Soviet stage. Born in Baku into a family of musicians — his grandfather, also named Muslim Magomayev, was a renowned Azerbaijani composer — he carried forward a rich artistic legacy from an early age.
Magomayev’s powerful baritone voice and commanding stage presence made him one of the most adored performers of his era. Blending opera, pop, and patriotic music, he earned the nickname the “Soviet Sinatra.” He starred in operas such as Tosca and Carmen and served as a soloist at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
By the 1960s, Magomayev had become a household name across the Soviet Union, performing to full concert halls from Moscow to Vladivostok. His signature songs — Blue Eternity, Azerbaijan, and Melody — became timeless classics, still beloved across generations.
Honoured with the title of People’s Artist of the USSR at the age of 31 — one of the youngest to ever receive it — Magomayev embodied the artistic spirit of an era. Beyond his musical genius, he was admired for his dignity, charisma, and devotion to his homeland.
He was married to the celebrated Soviet opera singer Tamara Sinyavskaya, forming one of the most famous artistic partnerships in the Soviet world.
Muslim Magomayev passed away in 2008 in Moscow and was laid to rest in Baku’s Alley of Honour, leaving behind a legacy that continues to unite people through music — as it did once again in Kazakhstan.
