Baku dialogue to drive regional renewable energy cooperation—IRENA official
A high-level ministerial dialogue in Baku will provide an important platform for discussing ways to accelerate regional renewable energy development under the framework of the Accelerated Partnership for Renewable Energy in Central Asia (APRECA), said Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Addressing a panel discussion at the Baku Energy Forum, La Camera emphasized the growing importance of regional cooperation in unlocking the full potential of renewable energy resources across Central Asia, Caliber.Az reports.
APRECA currently includes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as members, while consultations with Turkmenistan remain ongoing.
“Today’s high-level ministerial dialogue provides an important opportunity to discuss how to further accelerate regional renewable energy development within the APRECA framework. Renewable resources may be national, but the opportunities created by the energy transition are increasingly regional in nature,” La Camera said.
The IRENA chief stressed that stronger regional coordination and cooperation will be crucial for fully harnessing Central Asia’s renewable energy potential.
He noted that attracting greater investment in renewable energy requires a consolidated regional framework capable of aligning strategies and accelerating implementation. According to La Camera, this need served as the foundation for IRENA’s initiative to establish APRECA as a mechanism for advancing regional collaboration in the energy transition.
