Baku Initiative Group sounds alarm on Azerbaijan's mine crisis
During the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) Abbas Abbasov addressed the pressing issue of landmines in Azerbaijan.
Speaking at a conference, titled "Victims of Terror - International Standards and Best Practices. On the way of national application of the model of UN legislative provisions on victims of terror," Abbasov shed light on the three-decade-long mine terror inflicted by Armenia on Azerbaijan, Report informs.
In his speech, Abbasov underscored the extensive damage inflicted by the mines, not only to human lives but also to the environment. He emphasized that Armenia had planted approximately 1.5m mines in Azerbaijani territory, with the innocent inhabitants of the country bearing the brunt of the devastating consequences.
From the podium of the UN, Abbasov called on Armenia, urging it to provide accurate maps, delineating the locations of minefields in Azerbaijan.
