Baku Port official reveals number of container transshipment

Projects have been developed aimed at expanding the territory of the port and increasing the volume of container transshipment to 500 thousand TEU, Report news agency quotes Khudayar Hasanli, Head of the Strategic Planning and Development Department of Baku International Commercial Sea Port CJSC as saying.

He noted that the transshipment of such a number of containers is quite a large volume for this corridor: "In the short term, we can take the transshipment of 100-150 thousand TEU as a goal."

"China's potential is huge. For example, 98% of cargo from China to Europe is currently transported by sea, and 2% by land. One percent in cargo transportation by land means to get a large volume. Last year, 13 million TEU were transported between the European Union and China. Our potential is 100 thousand TEU, within the second phase it is planned to expand the volume to 500 thousand TEU," he said.
