Slovenia outlines strategic energy cooperation framework with Azerbaijan
The Slovenian Ministry of Environment, Climate, and Energy has detailed key areas of cooperation following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministries of Energy of Azerbaijan and Slovenia.
The MoU, signed on April 4, 2025, in Baku, sets a broad framework aimed at fostering partnership and knowledge exchange in the energy sector, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
At the heart of the agreement lies a commitment to strengthen collaboration between the national gas companies SOCAR of Azerbaijan and Slovenia’s Geoplin, ensuring uninterrupted natural gas trade and forging a strategic energy partnership. This initiative supports broader objectives to enhance energy security and diversify gas supply routes to Europe.
The memorandum further emphasizes backing the Southern Gas Corridor initiative, a critical infrastructure project designed to facilitate reliable gas deliveries to European markets. Cooperation will extend to advancing renewable energy development and clean technologies, including hydrogen energy, alongside promoting expertise exchange in energy system digitalization.
Additionally, the partnership reinforces joint efforts under the EU-Azerbaijan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and encourages active participation in EU energy initiatives aligned with global climate commitments under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.
The Slovenian ministry noted that the MoU serves as a framework document without binding deadlines or a specific implementation roadmap, underscoring its role as a platform for ongoing dialogue and strategic alignment.
The signing coincided with the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting, highlighting the continuing importance of energy cooperation in the region.
