ADB unveils new five-year strategy to support Azerbaijan’s green growth
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched its new Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Azerbaijan, outlining its support for the country’s development goals over the period 2025–2029.
According to ADB, the five-year strategy emphasises value creation, integration, and resilience, with a focus on building a green and diversified economy, as well as fostering low-carbon connectivity and inclusive development, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“As we embark on this new chapter in the ADB–Azerbaijan partnership, our focus is on building a robust economy, fostering private sector-led growth, strengthening the financial sector and contributing to regional cooperation,” said Sunniya Durrani-Jamal, ADB’s Country Director for Azerbaijan. “Through tailored strategic investments and collective effort, ADB aims to help address the country’s development priorities, develop regional initiatives, and build a prosperous future for the people of Azerbaijan.”
The CPS is aligned with Azerbaijan’s national development strategies and aims to address key structural challenges while harnessing opportunities for green and sustainable growth. Strategic priorities under the new plan include promoting innovation, supporting the production of high-value goods and services, and developing a skilled workforce to enhance the country’s competitiveness.
Beyond economic growth, the strategy also places strong emphasis on climate action, disaster risk management, gender equality, and digital transformation. The CPS seeks to ensure that development outcomes benefit not only the economy, but also people, the environment, and broader global public goods.
The ADB, founded in 1966 and owned by 69 members—50 of which are from the Asia-Pacific region—remains a key partner in Azerbaijan’s efforts to foster inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development.
