Bangladesh calls for Azerbaijan to open embassy in Dhaka
Bangladesh has expressed its readiness to host the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Dhaka.
The issue was discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov and Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The talks took place as part of the second round of bilateral consultations held in Dhaka. Both sides reviewed the full scope of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum of cooperation in the political, economic, cultural, and multilateral spheres.
Bangladesh’s foreign minister once again emphasised the importance of opening an Azerbaijani embassy in the country and called for a sustainable solution to the visa difficulties faced by Bangladeshi citizens when travelling to Azerbaijan.
Key topics of discussion included trade and investment, energy, education, cultural exchanges, and cooperation in regional and international formats.
Azerbaijan and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations in 1994, and over the years, both countries have demonstrated interest in expanding cooperation across various sectors. Bangladesh has consistently supported Azerbaijan’s position on the Karabakh conflict within international forums, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations. In return, Azerbaijan has voiced support for Bangladesh on issues of mutual interest, including development and regional stability.
In recent years, bilateral ties have gained momentum. In 2021, Bangladesh expressed strong support for Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and both nations highlighted the importance of mutual support within international organisations. Additionally, there have been regular exchanges of official delegations and participation in international summits hosted by each other.
