Bavarian premier demands right to shoot down drones
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder has demanded that German authorities be allowed to shoot down unidentified drones, announcing that his state is preparing a law to address the issue, according to Bild.
Söder’s remarks followed a temporary shutdown at Munich Airport on the night of October 3 due to drone sightings.
“Drone incidents show the high pressure we face. From now on, the rule must be: shoot, don’t wait! And do it consistently! Our police must be able to immediately neutralise drones,” Söder said.
He stressed the need for Germany to have effective protection for all critical infrastructure and military facilities, adding: “Bavaria is preparing a fast-track law on this. We will discuss it on Tuesday at the Cabinet meeting. The federal government must also promptly amend aviation security laws. This is not only about preventing espionage. Our infrastructure must remain operational at all times. We must have sovereignty over our airspace.”
