Belarusian leader grants clemency to mothers, pregnant woman
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has granted clemency to 18 convicted individuals, with women making up the majority of those pardoned.
The move includes mothers, a pregnant woman, and a former minor offender, highlighting a rare gesture of leniency amid ongoing scrutiny of the country’s justice system, Caliber.Az reports, citing Belarusian Telegram channel.
Six of these women are mothers, including some caring for children with disabilities who require ongoing medical rehabilitation.
The pardons also include two married couples, a woman in the late stages of pregnancy, and one individual who committed the offense at the age of 16.
“All of them submitted petitions for pardon, admitted their guilt, expressed remorse for their actions, and pledged to lead law-abiding lives,” the report stated.
