Belgium, Ukraine forge €150 million recovery agreement
Belgium and Ukraine have formalized a substantial €150 million cooperation agreement aimed at facilitating Ukraine's recovery efforts over the next four years.
The agreement, finalized in a video-link ceremony attended by Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Belgian Minister for International Cooperation Caroline Gennez on July 17, outlines extensive investments, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Managed through Belgium's cooperation agency Enabel, the initiative prioritizes critical infrastructure reconstruction and the establishment of secure facilities in educational institutions.
It is particularly related to Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts, which Caroline Gennez visited in February this year to get acquainted with the situation.
The initial tranche of €20 million will fund decentralized energy projects, focusing on hospitals in Kyiv and its suburbs ahead of winter, alongside support for healthcare facilities and schools through the installation of generators and solar panels.
It was earlier reported that Germany is allocating €10 million to rebuild Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital after the Russian attack. Lithuania previously donated €1 million for the same purpose.
