Best outcome for Baku and Yerevan is to achieve peace without third parties' involvement Director of Report news agency talks to CBC channel
The best outcome for Azerbaijan and Armenia is to reach a peace treaty without the participation of third parties, Fuad Huseynaliyev, director of the Report news agency, said in an interview with CBC channel.
He continued: "Recently, we have seen the activation of many mediators in the peace process. Among them are Russia, the United States and Brussels, and each of them wants to be a leading force in the process".
However, in Huseynaliyev's opinion, those participating in the negotiation process as mediators are more likely to pursue their interests, which may not coincide with Azerbaijan's interests.
"In this regard, the most convenient platform may be Tbilisi. Because it is important for Tbilisi to achieve peace in the region in general," the director of the news agency added.
According to him, the fact that the match of the 1/8 finals of the Azerbaijan Football Cup was held today at the Khankendi Stadium is a significant event.
"In fact, several thousand of our citizens who have not been able to get to their native lands for 30 years are there now. I think, apart from the people who lived there before the occupation, there will be many more who want to move there and participate in the further development of this region. It is symbolic that Karabakh is playing there today. It is a club from Aghdam. But its native stadium 'Imarat' is all destroyed. Holding the match on the Karabakh soil is of great importance. After Aghdam is settled, 'Qarabag' will move to the place of its permanent residence and will continue to represent Azerbaijan in the international arena," Huseynaliyev said.
