Bild: Germany to depend on Russian gas
The head of the Federal Chancellery of Germany, Wolfgang Schmidt, held a closed meeting on July 14 with the heads of state administrations, they discussed the gas crisis, Bild reports. The German government proceeds from the fact that Russia will not fully resume gas supplies via Nord Stream after the repair is completed. The gas pipeline is undergoing scheduled maintenance, supplies through it have been stopped until July 21.
According to the publication, if Russia increases gas supplies via Nord Stream to 40%, Germany will be able to survive the winter without declaring an emergency due to gas shortages. However, the chances that this will happen are assessed as low. if Russia suspends gas supplies to Germany after the repair of the Nord Stream, it will be necessary to convene a new emergency summit, already with the participation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Bild clarifies.
According to the publication, Germany will depend on Russian gas after next winter. This means that the problem with gas supplies to the country will remain until 2024. The German government expects gas prices to double or triple, the German tabloid adds.
Now Germany imports 40% of its gas from Russia.
